Setting a Good Example

As a parent you play an active role in your children’s oral wellbeing and are the ultimate role model for their dietary and oral hygiene habits. By setting a good example from the beginning, you can help create a healthy routine for your child’s future.

Eating Healthy
Healthy eating habits are beneficial to your child’s overall well-being. A balanced diet, with children consuming foods from all sections of the healthy food pyramid, can help to prevent decay while strengthening and protecting teeth. Encourage your child to eat healthy snacks and discuss their food choices with them.

Teeth friendly snacks include;

  • Fresh Fruit & Vegetables
  • Cheese & Yoghurt
  • Crackers
  • Popcorn
  • Nuts

It is important to avoid foods high in sugar and starch which can cause cavities. Cookies, chips, sugary drinks (such as soft drinks) and roll-ups are fine as occasional treats. Plain water is the best to drink.
